How to Prepare for Photo Day!

If you're selling a home, real estate photography is crucial to the success of your sale. You need to showcase the house in the finest spotlight. But to get the best of your photos, you must prepare your home for the session in advance.

That being said, here are some tips to prepare for the shoot:

Exterior:

  1. Clean your property's exterior by mowing overgrown lawns, trimming shrubs and trees, and removing fallen leaves and other debris from gutters and lawn furniture.

  2. Remove outdoor furniture from the yard if it's not in season. However, if you leave some on display, ensure it's neat and clean!

  3. Close all exterior doors including garage doors.

  4. Remove leaves from the driveway and walkways to make sure the first impression is that the property is well cared for.

Interior:

  1. Clean up the interior of your property by vacuuming carpets, dusting furniture and floors, and removing any clutter. Vacuuming and sweeping can make all the difference in how attractive your space looks for photos.

  2. Wipe down windows and mirrors to remove visible dirt, fingerprints, and smudges.

  3. Ensure the stove and kitchen counters are spotless, with no visible residue. The kitchen should look shiny and clean! - This includes clearing dishes from and cleaning inside the sink! Dirty cleaning tools (sponges, brushes, etc.) should be hidden as well.

  4. Make the bathrooms look sparkling clean by putting new toilet paper rolls on holders, and ensure the floors shine without a speck of dirt.

  5. Close toilet lids – again, this will help keep things looking clean and tidy!

  6. Make sure all of the beds in the house are made before pictures are taken, so they look nice and neat.

  7. Hide any belongings that would be a distraction – you don't want anything lying around during the shoot, as it would take away from the focus.

  8. Shooting in natural light makes everything look great, so open up as many windows as possible! If shades or blinds are blocking the light, pull them up, so they let in plenty of sunbeams.

  9. Turn on all the lights, especially those that highlight certain areas, making rooms seem larger.

  10. Turn off any TVs or computers in the house, as they can distract from the space's overall aesthetic.
